Description The Burmese python is one of the largest snakes in the whole world. They are usually tan with dark-colored blotches on the sides and back, and their head is triangular. Because they are generally tame and have a fast growth rate, Burmese pythons are a popular choice among exotic pet owners. These large constrictors naturally inhabit the marshes and forests of Southeast Asia. While they are young, they spend most of their time in the trees. Yet, as they grow older and become larger and heavier, they find climbing trees unmanageable. With this, they spend more time on the ground when they become adults. Aside from slithering on the ground, Burmese pythons are also great swimmers. In fact, these snakes can stay underwater for over 30 minutes. In addition, they are also categorized as carnivorous and typically feed on birds and smaller mammals. Since they have a weak sense of sight, they hunt their prey with the heat sensors located on their jaws, and uses their tongue with chemical receptors. The Burmese python will then grasp the prey using its sharp teeth, and then coil its body around the victim. It will squeeze the animal until it becomes suffocated, and then swallow it whole. This is made possible by the stretchable ligaments of its jaws. Generally, Burmese pythons are solitary creatures and they only come together during their mating season in spring. Females lay over 100 eggs in a single clutch, and then incubate these eggs for a period of about 2-3 months.
Please be advised that while safe for monitored play, plush toys should not be left unattended with infants younger than 7 months old.
